LOCKED IN: City Captain re-commits until 2027

Melbourne City FC is delighted to announce that Men’s Captain, Aziz Behich, has put pen to paper on a new deal that will see him remain at the Club until at least the conclusion of the 2026/27 season.

Already under contract for the upcoming season, the Socceroos full-back has signalled his belief in the Club, signing a two-year contract extension.

The Melbourne-born defender, who became a City centurion in November 2023, was last month recognised for his leadership when he was appointed the Club’s Men’s Captain.

His long-term commitment further cements the experience and leadership across City’s squad following the re-signings of senior teammates Andrew Nabbout and Mathew Leckie.

Behich will lead the Club in an A-League Men’s fixture for the first time when City opens its season away to Newcastle Jets on Saturday 19 October.

Highlighting the importance of Behich’s re-signing, Melbourne City FC Director of Football, Michael Petrillo, said he was pleased to secure the long-term signature of the Socceroos defender.

“Aziz is our Captain, he’s a natural leader of this group and someone who is just as important on the pitch as he is off the pitch.

“We have a talented, yet young squad, so it’s pivotal to have someone of Aziz’s calibre, experience and leadership in the locker room to lead this team forward over the next three seasons.”

Aziz Behich said it was an easy decision to extend his stay at City.

“I couldn’t be happier to extend my contract for another two seasons. Melbourne City is my home and I’m delighted to have the opportunity to repay the Club’s faith in me.

“The hunger across the squad has been evident throughout pre-season and I’m excited to continue to work towards bringing more success to the Club.”
