City in the Community (CITC) is now delivering the internationally renowned Twinning Program across Melbourne, helping to support the rehabilitation of young offenders and make our community safer.
The Twinning Project, first launched in the United Kingdom in 2018, sees professional football clubs work with correctional facilities around the world to help prisoners prepare for integration back into the community following their release and in turn, decrease the rate of reoffending.
As well as playing football and connecting with the club, the program also focuses on building skills in areas such as teamwork, leadership, respectful relationships, physical, and mental health.
The recent Melbourne pilot program, delivered at the Metropolitan Remand Centre, has proven hugely successful and will soon be delivered across other facilities including the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre, a correctional facility for women.
The program is delivered by participants of CITC’s successful Young Leaders Program with support from Club Staff and players from our A- League Men’s, A-League Women’s and Powerchair teams.
