Melbourne City captain, Rebekah Stott, has praised her teammates following City’s 4-3 win over third-placed Adelaide United on Sunday afternoon.
The win saw City break the A-League Women’s record for the longest unbeaten streak, extending it to 19 games as the team continues to push for the Premiers Plate.
Surpassing the previous record which was shared between Brisbane Roar (2008/09), Canberra United (2011/12), and a previous City streak (2015/16), Stott reflected on the milestone after breaking the existing record that she was also a part of.
“To get three points is incredible and that record is pretty special,” Stott told 10Play post-match. “It’s something I’m so proud of and this group can be proud of themselves for getting that. We know it’s not over yet and we still have a long way to go, but yeah, we’re super happy.”

The City captain, who has played an important role in the Club’s journey, reflected on what the milestone means to her and the team.
“It’s so special,” she said. “I mean, this Club is amazing and they’ve had very good teams in the past.
“To be able to put our names in that group of amazing players and amazing teams is so special, and these girls deserve it. They work hard every single day and I’m just super proud.”
In a crucial clash between first and third on the ladder, it was a hard fought win for City.
“Adelaide are a great team. Scoring three goals against us – obviously we don’t want to concede that many goals in a game – but they’re a quality side,” Stott reflected. “I think they’ll be a big threat this season and yeah, it’s really good for the league.”
Stott also highlighted the resilience City showed in seeing out the result, shutting down Adelaide’s attacking threats in the closing stages.
“When we have the ball in our possession, we don’t want to give the ball away in bad areas to give them good chances,” Stott said.
“We definitely want to be hard to beat and giving up as few chances as possible is one of our goals.”

City’s focus now turns to a crucial AFC Women’s Champions League Quarter Final this Sunday 23 March against Taichung Blue Whale.
“I don’t think the week will be very different to how we prepare for most games,” Stott said.
“Obviously, we’ll watch them and see where we can hurt them. It’s such an exciting game, we cannot wait to be a part of that and hopefully book our ticket into the semis.”
