Schenkeveld: It was great to get my first 90 minutes

Melbourne City’s latest signing Bart Schenkeveld says he’s pleased to get his first match as a City player under the belt as he looks to cement his place in the side for the upcoming season.

The Dutchman played the full match at centre back, looking comfortable on the ball and in the general City defensive shape and Schenkeveld says he’s relishing his time at the Club thus far.

“I enjoyed it,” Schenkeveld said.

“It was my first game with the team and it was really good, a good game to start with. It was two weeks since I played my last game in Holland and we were at the end of the pre-season there so I’m feeling good.”

Despite only having 75 minutes with centre back partner Michael Jakobsen by his side, Schekeveld looked comfortable after the change and his role as a ‘Mr.Fix it’ in the back four was highlighted on Tuesday.

“It was my first match with Michael so we still have a bit to work on but I think we worked well together for most of the match. I will need more time to come together and learn the team but this was a good start for me.”

It will be A-League opposition up next for City and Schenkeveld and the Dutchman is looking forward to the challenge of facing opposition he will face week-in week-out.

“I think it’s always good to play against the strongest teams,” he said.

“It will be a good test to see where we are at this season and I can’t wait to play again.”
