Key Battle: Metcalfe v Bouman

Two Olyroos will be going head-to-head in midfield on Wednesday night when Melbourne City FC travel to the Central Coast to take on the Mariners.

21-year-old Connor Metcalfe has been one of City’s best players this season through its first four games while Daniel Bouman (22) has been important for the Mariners.

Metcalfe has been on the pitch for every minute of the season so far for City, while Bouman has appeared in the Mariners starting line-up in their last two games after making his first two appearances for the season off the bench.

Neither player has tackled much this season with only 12 attempts between the two – but Bouman has been the more successful, winning the ball in 80% of his challenges compared to Metcalfe’s 43% in what is a small sample size.

Metcalfe does boast a higher win rate in terms of duels at 49%, with Bouman’s win rate a little lower at 39%.

Passing is the area where Metcalfe has really shined for City, completed 85% of his attempted passes so far this season.

Bouman, who has been playing out wide at times this season, has completed 75% while attempting an average of 20.5 passes per 90 minutes, compared to Metcalfe who averages 33.5.

The Central Coast midfielder has recorded three key passes with one being credited an assist and Metcalfe is yet to assist with two key passes to his name.

That being said, the City young gun has found the back of the net – scoring the winner in City’s round one victory against Brisbane.

Bouman has shot four times this season but is still waiting to score his first A-League goal.
