City appoint new Goalkeeper Coach

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Goalkeeper Coach Mike van Houten to Patrick Kisnorbo’s coaching staff ahead of the 2022/23 A-League Men season.

A highly regarded expert in his field, van Houten comes to City from his most recent role as Head Coach of Saudi Arabia’s U21’s, after previously spending time as both the team’s Goalkeeper and Assistant Coach.

Prior to 2020, van Houten had spent over a decade coaching in his home country of the Netherlands, with stints at De Graafschap, FC Twente ’65 and FC Utrecht.

Melbourne City FC Director of Football, Michael Petrillo, said the acquisition of such a highly touted goalkeeper coach was a big addition to Kisnorbo’s coaching staff ahead of the new season.

“Mike brings great experience from his time at FC Twente, FC Utrecht and recently coaching the Saudi U21 national team,” Petrillo said.

“We were keen to find somebody who could bring a different dimension and experience to our goalkeepers.

“Mike has shown an innovative and modern approach to his coaching methods that fits perfectly within our philosophy and values, so he will be a very valuable addition to our coaching ranks.”

van Houten will replace outgoing Goalkeeper Coach, Jeff Olver, who is set to depart City after joining the Club on the eve of the 2021/22 season.

“I’d like to thank Jeff Olver for his contributions after coming onboard at very short notice,” Petrillo said.

“Everyone at the Club would like to wish him every success for the future.”
