Melbourne City FC have drawn West Australia National Premier Leagues side Floreat Athena in the Round of 32 of the Westfield FFA Cup.

John van’t Schip’s side will travel across the Nullarbor on either July 26 or 27 at a venue to be determined to play their first competitive match of the 2016/17 season.

City have a connection with Floreat when the side travels to Perth to face the Glory, with the Litis Stadium hosting our final pre-match session before regular season matches at nib Stadium however with lighting in question, the venue itself may not be able to host the match.

City Head Coach John van’t Schip says Athena will be an unknown entity for his side but looks forward to the challenge of heading to Perth.

“It’s going to be a game we don’t know much about the opposition. We trained there a few times and we know people of the club but we don’t know the way they play or their team so we will definitiely do our research,” van’t Schip said.

“I think it’s good in pre-season we can be together and travel. It’s also an new opportunity for our new players to gel. On top of that, we have an important game and it’s something that we can use in a good way.

The date and venue of the match will be determined at a later time. Stay tuned to melbournecityfc.com.au for all match updates.
