We’re excited to confirm that Hamza Sakhi will remain in City colours next season.
The Moroccan-born midfielder joined the Club on a one-year loan in August last year with an option to make the transfer permanent which we have now exercised.
Sakhi has been a reliable part of our squad this season, appearing in all 19 competitive fixtures we’ve played since he joined the Club and scoring his first goal on Sunday in a come-from-behind win against Western United.
Earlier this season he was used in a more advanced midfield role, but recent weeks have seen Head Coach Aurelio Vidmar play him as a defensive midfielder, a position in which he has been excelling.
Having started in all but one match since he joined the Club, Sakhi is set to be an important midfield contributor for the remainder of this season as well as our 2024/25 campaign.
He will next be in action on Friday night when we make the trip to Sydney for a clash against Western Sydney Wanderers in the inaugural A-Leagues Unite Round.
Melbourne City FC Director of Football, Michael Petrillo, said:
”Hamza is a quality player who has now settled into the rhythm of the team and become a pivotal player for us.
“We had the option to make the transfer a permanent one and we had no hesitation in doing so. We look forward to Hamza continuing to be an important part of our midfield.”
