American attacker joins City

Melbourne City FC is excited to announce the signing of American attacker, Cariel Ellis, on a one-year deal.

The 23-year-old joins City from the US college system where she made 50 career appearances across stints with Lamar University (2022-2023) and the University of Tennessee (2021).

At Lamar University, Ellis developed into a dangerous attacking threat for the Cardinals, using her strength and pace to score as well as create for her teammates. In her 34 appearances, Ellis was a standout performer, netting 18 goals and notching up a further 12 assists.

Looking ahead to the 2024/25 season, Ellis’ inclusion strengthens City’s bid for a second-consecutive A-League Women’s Premiers Plate, and a strong debut in the inaugural AFC Women’s Champions League.

Melbourne City FC Director of Football, Michael Petrillo, was delighted to welcome Ellis to City.

“For the first time ever, our Women’s team are facing the exciting challenge of both continental and domestic football, and Cariel is the type of player we think can help us in the chase for more on-field success.

“She’s an exciting attacking player, and her ability to create chances and score goals should give our fans a lot to look forward to this season.”

After signing her first professional contract, Cariel Ellis spoke of her excitement to make the move across the Pacific.

“I’m so happy to be joining a club of Melbourne City’s stature.

“I’ve heard great things about the Club, and I can’t wait to meet my new teammates, the fans, and to make a positive impact both on and off the pitch.

“I’m not coming for a holiday. I’m here to win.”
