Looking to Go Back-to-Back

After a strong 2-0 win over Newcastle, Vidmar’s men are aiming for successive victories to kick off the season.

Marco Tilio scored early, while new signings Yonatan Cohen, Kai Trewin, and Patrick Beach made an immediate impact.

Beach, on his starting debut, kept a clean sheet with some key saves on his way to a Player of the Match performance.

Saturday’s clash promises to be a fierce contest as we aim to make it two for two with another crucial three points up for grabs.

We’ll see Patrick Kisnorbo in the opposition dugout for the first time as Victory eyes their first win of the season following a scoreless draw on the Central Coast in Round 1.

The Melbourne Derby

Who Replaces Jeggo?

The only downside of our win over Newcastle was Jimmy Jeggo’s second half red card, which now leaves a gap in midfield heading into the Derby.

Vidmar and his coaching staff do have a plethora of options though.

A reshuffle could occur, with Steven Ugarkovic moving into a more defensive role, opening the door for Marco Tilio, Andreas Kuen, or perhaps even Mathew Leckie to step into midfield.

Alternatively, Zane Schreiber and Germán Ferreyra both shape up as solid options should more like-for-like change be preferred after both were among the substitutes last week.

Ending an unwanted run

Though our recent record in the Melbourne Derby hasn’t been ideal, Saturday provides a fresh opportunity to turn the tide and reclaim bragging rights.

After a cagey pair of scoreless draws in the first two meetings last season, our cross-town rivals got the better of us in the last two – providing an added level of motivation for our City boys heading into Saturday night.
