PUSKÁS AWARD: Terry Antonis’ incredible strike recognised on world stage

Terry Antonis has made history by being nominated for FIFA’s prestigious Puskás Award, placing him among the top 11 contenders in the world for the best goal of last season.

Putting his name in the conversation for the greatest ever City goal, it was a moment of magic from Antonis who unleashed an absolute worldie against his former side, Western Sydney Wanderers.

The coveted award is named after legendary Hungarian striker, Ferenc Puskás, and previous winners include Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Celebrating the most spectacular goals between 21 August 2023 to 10 August 2024, Antonis is nominated alongside Alejandro Garnacho, Mohammed Kudus and Federico Dimarco.

Following the announcement, Antonis reflected on his nomination.

“To be in that bracket is something amazing and something I will cherish forever,” he said.

“I felt the player coming, and put it over his head, looked up, and had a quick glance and thought why not?

“It’s definitely up there for the best goal I’ve scored in my career – against your old club, that’s what you want to do.”

The former City midfielder is only the second A-Leagues player to be nominated for the award.
