Powerchair Team makes hot start to National Club Championships

Melbourne City’s Powerchair team has made an electric start to the 2024 National Club Championships, winning all eight of our matches in the first four days of competition.

The squad has been in scintillating form, scoring an incredible 40 goals while conceding just five, stamping its authority as a frontrunner for the title.

The highlight of the tournament so far was a commanding 11-0 victory over Auckland FC, showcasing the team’s attacking firepower and defensive resilience.

New recruit Chris Gordon has made an immediate impact while Santo Bongiovanni has also been on fire. Gordon has netted 12 goals with Bongiovanni close behind with nine.

Their contributions have added another dimension to City’s already formidable lineup, as the team looks to bring home the championship.

While City has been dominant, Newcastle has emerged as its toughest challenger. The two sides met in a thrilling contest earlier in the tournament, with Bongiovanni’s hattrick proving decisive in a hard-fought 4-3 win.

The Jets currently sit second on the table and could present another challenge in the finals.

Next up, City will take on Hills United on Wednesday morning before facing another yet-to-be-confirmed opponent in the afternoon. The team will then shift its focus to the finals on Thursday, aiming to cap off a brilliant campaign by being crowned National Club Champions.
