WSL centurion signs for City

Melbourne City FC is delighted to announce the signing of experienced English defender Danielle Turner, who joins the Club on a two-year deal from Women’s Super League (WSL) side Aston Villa.

The 33-year-old arrives in Melbourne with a wealth of experience from one of the world’s strongest domestic competitions, having amassed well over 200 professional appearances including over a decade with Everton.

Born in Warrington, Turner came through Everton’s youth academy and went on to spend 15 years with the club, playing an instrumental role in their promotion to the WSL, later being named club captain.

She led the side for five years, making 192 appearances in blue, scoring 29 goals and becoming a respected figure both on and off the pitch in the process.

In July 2022, Turner made the move to Aston Villa where she continued to excel, making 72 appearances across all competitions. A standout moment in her Villa tenure came during the 2023/24 season, when her stunning volley against Manchester City, struck with her non-preferred foot, was voted the Women’s Super League Goal of the Season.

A left-footer capable of playing across the backline, Turner brings versatility, composure and leadership to City’s ranks ahead of the 2025/26 A-League Women’s season and AFC Women’s Champions League campaign.

Melbourne City FC Director of Football, Michael Petrillo, said:

“Danielle is a fantastic addition to our squad. Her experience at the highest level, her leadership qualities, and her ability to play multiple defensive roles will be a huge asset for us.

“She’s shown her quality time and time again at the highest level and is someone who brings both footballing intelligence and strong character to the group.

“We’re excited to welcome her to Melbourne and look forward to the impact she’ll make both on and off the pitch.”

Danielle Turner said:

“I’m really excited to join Melbourne City, it’s a Club with high ambitions and a clear identity, and I can’t wait to be part of it.

“After so many years in England, I was ready for a new challenge and it’s an opportunity that felt like the right fit.

“I’m looking forward to getting started with the team, experiencing a new domestic league and the AFC Women’s Champions League, and contributing however I can to bring more success to City.”
