Fixture details for Melbourne City’s AFC Champions League Elite Round of 16 clash have now been confirmed, with a two-legged showdown against Buriram United locked in for early March.
It is a matchup that already carries recent history. The two sides met earlier this campaign during the League Stage, when City produced a strong comeback performance, with goals from Elbasan Rashani and Max Caputo sealing all three points.
We also faced Buriram twice during our most recent AFC Champions League campaign of 2023/24, claiming an impressive 2-0 victory away in Thailand but narrowly going down 1-0 at home in the reverse fixture.
A place in the Quarter Finals will be on the line as City host the first leg in Melbourne before travelling to Thailand for the decisive return fixture a week later.
The opening leg will be played on Tuesday 3 March, kicking off at 6:45pm, setting the stage for a huge night of continental football at home. Having finished fifth in the League Stage – one position behind Buriram – City will look to make home advantage count and take momentum into the second leg.
The return leg will then be played at Buriram Stadium on Tuesday 10 March, with kick-off scheduled for 11:15pm AEDT (7:15pm local time). It looms as a late night for City fans back home, with a Quarter Final berth to be decided in Thailand.
The winner of the two-legged tie will progress to the final stages of the competition, set to be held in Saudi Arabia in mid-to-late April.
