Defensive duo recommit to City

Melbourne City FC has reinforced its defensive stocks ahead of the new campaign, with experienced defender Harrison Delbridge re-signing for the 2026/27 season, while Academy graduate Ryan Kalms has penned a two-year contract extension.

Having spent three seasons at the Club from 2017 to 2020, Delbridge returned to City in January this year following a five-year stint in Korea with Incheon United.

The experienced defender made six appearances following his return in January, bringing his total to 74 appearances across all competitions during his two spells with the Club.

Kalms, who signed his first professional contract in October 2025, adds further defensive depth and a youthful option in Aurelio Vidmar’s squad after committing his future to City for a further two years.

Having first joined City’s Academy at age 13, the 20-year-old made his professional debut in the Australia Cup Round of 32 last season, producing an impressive performance in the heart of defence.

Wearing the armband for City’s Youth Team across the past two seasons, Kalms will continue his progression within the Club’s senior environment as he pushes for further first-team opportunities.

Melbourne City FC Director of Football Michael Petrillo said maintaining continuity was important as the Club continues to build its squad for the season ahead.

“We’re pleased to have both Harrison and Ryan re-signed as we continue to strengthen our squad heading into the new season,” Petrillo said.

“Harrison brings valuable experience and leadership to our group. He understands our Club, the standards we expect, and we know the qualities he provides both on and off the pitch.

“Ryan is another excellent example of the pathway we’ve built at Melbourne City. He has developed immensely through our Academy system, earned his opportunity in the first-team environment and continues to demonstrate the qualities we value highly both as a player and a person.

“We’re looking forward to seeing both players continue to contribute to the squad in the season ahead.”

Harrison Delbridge said it was an easy decision to extend his stay at City.

“While it was disappointing the way last season ended, I couldn’t have been happier to be back at City,” Delbridge said.

“It’s a place that feels like home and I’m excited to be here for another season. I’m looking forward to getting to work in pre-season and doing everything I can to help the team have a successful year.”

Ryan Kalms said he was excited to continue his journey in City blue.

“I’m really proud to extend my time at Melbourne City,” Kalms said.

“The Club has played such a big role in my journey since joining the Academy, and I’m grateful for the support I’ve received from my coaches, teammates and staff throughout that time.

“Being around the first-team environment over the past year has been a fantastic experience and has helped me grow both as a player and a person.

“I’m excited to keep learning, keep improving and do everything I can to earn further opportunities in the seasons ahead.”
