After six seasons and 107 appearances in Melbourne City colours, centurion Leah Davidson has completed a permanent transfer to newly promoted Women’s Super League (WSL) side Charlton Athletic for an undisclosed fee.
Joining City as a teenager in November 2020, Davidson developed into one of the Ninja A-League’s premier defensive midfielders during her six seasons in Melbourne.
A central figure throughout one of the most successful periods in the Club’s history, Davidson played a key role in City securing three consecutive Premierships and the 2025/26 Championship.
As a member of the team’s leadership group, she also played an important role in driving the standards that underpinned the Club’s success on and off the pitch.
Her consistency, professionalism and relentless work ethic were recognised through the Melissa Barbieri Award (formerly the Coaches Award), which she received in both her debut and final seasons.
Davidson’s outstanding form at Melbourne City earned her a Matildas debut in 2024, where she marked the occasion with a goal against Chinese Taipei before since making a further three appearances for Australia.
Davidson departs as the third most-capped player in Melbourne City Women’s history, leaving a lasting legacy both on and off the pitch.
Her move to the Women’s Super League is a fitting reward for six outstanding seasons in City colours.
Melbourne City FC Director of Football Michael Petrillo thanked Davidson for everything she has contributed to the Club.
“Leah’s journey at Melbourne City is one we are incredibly proud of,” Petrillo said.
“She arrived as a teenager with enormous potential and leaves as a centurion, a Matilda and a key figure in one of the most successful periods in our Women’s program.
“Leah has consistently set the standards through her professionalism, commitment and work ethic, and she’s earned the opportunity to take the next step in her career in the Women’s Super League.
“We thank Leah for everything she has given to Melbourne City and wish her every success with Charlton Athletic.”
Davidson reflected fondly on her six seasons at Melbourne City.
“My time at Melbourne City has shaped me so much as both a player and a person, and I’ll always be grateful for everything the Club has given me,” Davidson said.
“The teammates, coaches and staff I’ve shared this journey with have had an enormous influence on my career, and the friendships and memories we’ve created together will stay with me forever.
“Pulling on the Melbourne City shirt more than 100 times has been an incredible honour, and I want to thank everyone for the support they’ve shown me throughout my time at City. I’ll always look back on these six years with enormous pride.”
