Cortnee Vine is back in the Ninja A-League, and our newest signing has opened up on why Melbourne City was the right place to begin the next chapter of her career.
The Matildas star was unveiled as City’s latest signing earlier this week, returning to Australia after two seasons in the United States with North Carolina Courage.
For Vine, the decision to pull on City blue came down to the environment she believes the Club can provide.
“City in itself has lots to offer as a club. In the Ninja A-League, they set the standard with the resources they provide and the professionalism of the Club is a big reason why I’ve decided to sign,” Vine told 10 News.
The move also brings the 28-year-old back home to Australia, closer to family and friends and with the opportunity to play regular football once again.
“Australia is home for me. It was a matter of being closer to friends and family and getting the game time,” she told 10 News.
“I’ve really missed playing, I got some glimpses over in America, but I want to be back in an environment where I feel valued and wanted.”
Speaking separately with the Herald Sun, Vine again pointed to City’s standing within the Ninja A-League as a major factor behind her decision.
“I’m just excited to be part of a team like City that sets the standard in the league. They’re a level about the rest.”
With another FIFA Women’s World Cup also on the horizon, Vine made no secret of her desire to force her way back into the Matildas setup.
“It’s definitely on my mind, it’s something I’d love to be a part of,” she told 10 News.
For now, though, the focus shifts to settling into her new surroundings as City prepares to begin pre-season in the coming weeks.
Vine joins a squad fresh off securing the Premiership-Championship double, with our newest City star eager to make her mark as we prepare to defend both trophies in 2026/27.
