FFA Cup Watch: Peninsula move to second in Brisbane Premier League

City’s Westfield FFA Cup opponent Peninsula Power go from strength to strength in the Brisbane Premier League after moving to second in the competition.

The Football Brisbane catch-up round saw Peninsula play their Round 7 fixture with Albany Creek at AJ Kelly Park and three points would see the Power leap-frog Lions FC into second position.

Peninsula’s fine form in the second half of the season didn’t look like stopping as they took control over seventh placed Albany.

The Power opened the scoring after 37 minutes as dangerman Dean Briggs curled a ball into the penalty area after a short set-piece, seeing Matthew Boyd glance his effort into the back of the net.

The home side continued to press for a second and were almost rewarded before the break as a wonderful combination saw Briggs again cause Albany headaches as his effort was saved with the follow up flagged for offside.

As the match wound down, Boyd was inches from his brace for the night but was denied by a wonderful save from the Albany keeper to keep his side in the match. The Power however would walk away with the three points, moving to within three points of league leaders Rochedale Rovers.
