Melbourne Heart’s Round 23 Hyundai A-League match against Wellington Phoenix is the Club’s Indigenous fixture, where the Club acknowledges the contribution of Aboriginal footballers to our great game.
This will be the fourth season Melbourne Heart celebrates an Indigenous fixture, with AAMI Park located on a sacred site.
David Williams has been a terrific ambassador for Indigenous footballers and Melbourne Heart is proud to dedicate a fixture to Indigenous recognition.
Williams will wear a pair of boots that feature Aboriginal artwork, from Darren Dunn.
Auntie Joy Murphy will be deliver the ‘Welcome to Country’, which is a traditional ceremony performed by Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people to welcome visitors to their traditional land.
The ceremony can take many forms and can include singing, dancing, or a speech, while Ronnie Murray will play the traditional Aboriginal musical instrument, the didgeridoo.
A number of Indigenous groups from are attending Sunday’s match from communities such as Mildura, Colac, Brimbank, Darebin and the Gathering Place.
