Melbourne Heart FC will embrace a digital phenomenon this Saturday ahead of the Round 20 fixture against Perth Glory at AAMI Park.

In an A-League first, players will wear their Twitter handles in place of their surnames on the back of the fan-designed Heart third strip.

Heart has also partnered with Save the Children Australia to auction the jersey of the man of the match, which will be voted by fans on Twitter, with all proceeds going to the children-s agency.

Heart midfielder Richard Garcia, who is a prominent user on Twitter, embraced the initiative.

“[Twitter] is good. It-s a good way for fans to interact with you,” Garcia said.

“They don-t often get to pick your brains or ask you questions.”

The initiative is all part of Melbourne Heart FC-s one-off interactive match against the Glory and Heart-s commitment to digital engagement with fans.

The clash is also very important for Heart-s finals push with Glory also in the hunt for a top-six finish.

“It is a big game,” said Garcia. “The next three or four are massive for us.”

“We have got to make sure we beat the teams in and around us and push for that top-six spot.”
