Melbourne Heart FC’s National Youth League team will look to avenge last night with a youth derby against Melbourne Victory at Jon Cain Memorial Park this afternoon.

Heart has been the form team of the past four weeks, notching impressive wins against Newcastle Jets, Sydney FC, Brisbane Roar and, most recently, an emphatic 3-0 win over table-topping Central Coast Mariners.

But this afternoon-s showdown between Melbourne-s fierce rivals, which kicks off from 3pm, presents itself as one of the more important fixtures of the season, shaping as a six-pointer between Heart – who are second – and Victory – in third place.

“It was a shattering result last night, but we couldn-t fault the effort of the guys, they deserved more,” NYL coach Joe Palatsides said.

“For us, today is the last game before the Christmas break and we really want to finish off the first round with a good result. We do have a few players out again, Phil Petreski, Evan Batsis and Sam Mitchinson are all out for various reasons.

“But the players have shown they are very resilient and can cover any losses that we may have.

“It will be great to finish off 2012 with a Melbourne derby and even though it ill be a really tough encounter we-ll be hoping to make it four in a row.”
