NPL Preview: Victory v City

Melbourne City’s NPL side will look to make it three wins from three as they travel to Epping Stadium this Sunday to reignite the youth Melbourne Derby in Round 6 action of the PS4 NPL2 season.

After a slow start, with two draws and a loss to begin the campaign, Joe Palatsides Foxtel National Youth League winning-side has taken maximum points from its previous two games; outscoring opponents nine goals to two en-route to a convincing 6-1 rout of Eastern Lions and a superb second half comeback to topple Werribee City 3-1.

The wins have rocketed City up to second place on the table, sitting only a points behind league leaders Dandenong City, who have moved to the summit after Springvale White Eagles had two points deducted for crowd trouble.

City’s opponents this week will be coming in to the match on a high after their first win of the season; with Head Coach Gareth Naven’s side securing a 3-1 win over Murray United last week in Wodonga.

A-League senior listed player George Howard scored a brace in the last contest while Victory’s squad also featured 17 year old Christian Theoharous, who recently made headlines after being signed as a scholarship player by Victory’s A-League side in the lead in to the finals.

City’s NPL side will kick off against Victory at 3:00pm at Epping Stadium, with the U20’s kicking off at 12:30pm.
