Melbourne Heart FC has confirmed Bendigo will play host to the third and final leg of the 2010 Westpac Community Football Festival.
After inviting the public have its say and select their preferred option, Bendigo emerged as the outright favourite among site users, drawing nearly 40 per cent of the vote.
The event will see Heart and Westpac spend three days engaging with the football and business community in and around Bendigo from 13-15 July, hosting clinics and events before challenging a local club in a friendly match.
The Westpac Community Football Festival- will also feature Melbourne Heart FC-s ‘Coach the Coach- program, where Head Coach John van ‘t Schip will educate local football clubs on the latest tactical and technical innovations in the game.
Chief Executive Officer Scott Munn said the club is excited to be taking elite level football to communities around regional Victoria.
“As ambassadors for football on a national scale, we believe it is incumbent upon us as a club to utilise our reach and profile to help bolster the game at a grassroots level around the state,” he said.
“And with the help of our principal sponsor Westpac, these series of football festivals will allow us to do just that, and provide real, tangible support for the many local football clubs and communities around the state, including Bendigo.
“Everyone at the club is looking forward to the opportunity of connecting with the many members of the football community around the state on a real personal basis.”
Geelong will stage the first leg of the festival between 15th and 17th of June before moving on to Morwell from the 6th to 8th of July.
The Westpac Community Football Festival will encompass six different regional centres in 2011 and 2012, ensuring the Heart can engage with a wider cross-section of Victorian society.
