Melbourne Heart FC Head Coach John van ‘t Schip ventured down to Brighton Soccer Club over the weekend to help celebrate its annual gala day.
Van ‘t Schip was joined by Assistant Coach Jesper Olsen and signing Kamal Ibrahim in a show of support for Brighton SC, which is one of the largest grassroots sporting clubs in the state.
The trio helped orchestrate drills, took part in an impromptu kick around and dispensed with valuable advice to the many youngsters in attendance, demonstrating the Heart-s commitment to providing guidance and support to the community.
Brighton SC has over 1,000 playing members and is set to field 73 teams during the upcoming Football Federation Victoria season, a clear indicator of the sport-s growing popularity among the State-s grassroots population.
“I really enjoyed heading down to Brighton and getting the opportunity to meet the next generation of budding young football players,” Van ‘t Schip said.
“Clubs like Brighton play an important role in developing talent for the future and I saw a few players today who have shown some potential to one day play professionally.”
General Manager of Community Sue Crow believes it is critical the Heart utilises its mainstream presence to help bolster football at a grassroots level.
“As one of only 11 professional football clubs around the nation, we are in a unique situation to make a valuable contribution at a grassroots level,” Crow said.
“A central pillar of our vision and philosophy is to provide support and leadership for the football community around the state, utilising the club-s presence and resources to support local teams.”
