Melbourne City FC is delighted to announce the signing of England international Jodie Taylor from Arsenal Women as a guest player for the Westfield W-League 2017/18 season.

Taylor joins City in December for a seven-game guest player stint, having signed a permanent deal with Seattle Reign in the US National Women’s Soccer League.

The 31-year-old forward was crowned the FA Women’s Player of the Year following an impressive EURO 2017 campaign in which she finished as the tournament’s Golden Boot winner with five goals.

Commenting on her signing, Taylor said: “I’m delighted to be joining Melbourne City – a Club which is widely recognised as continuously raising the bar for women’s football. I’ve played all over the world and I know how passionate the support is for the game in Australia. I cannot wait to get out and play for the fans.

Head Coach Patrick Kisnorbo said: “Jodie is a fantastic striker who will help reinforce the attacking threat and firepower already at our disposal. Her movement off the ball, willingness to work hard for the team and her goal-scoring ability will make her a valuable addition to our team and we are all looking forward to her arrival.

Born in Birkenhead, UK, Taylor has enjoyed spells with clubs in Australia, Sweden and England as well as the United States. She represented Lincoln Ladies and Birmingham City in the FA Women’s Super League prior to her move to Arsenal, winning the FA Cup with the Blues in 2012.

Taylor has netted 15 goals in 30 appearances for England, securing her place in the history books by scoring only the third women’s EURO hat-trick in 20 years during the Lionesses’ record 6-0 win over Scotland at the 2017 tournament.

Taylor is currently on international duty with England ahead of the Lionesses’ upcoming World Cup Qualifiers against  Bosnia and Herzegovnia and Kazakhstan. She will wear the number 12 jersey for Melbourne City.
