City’s front three flourish in finals form

The understanding between Melbourne City FC’s front trio has been a major factor behind the Club registering back-to-back 3-0 wins with victories over Western Sydney and Newcastle.

Since Bruno Fornaroli’s return from a long-term ankle injury that ruled him out for majority of the season, the Uruguayan has quickly recaptured his form and formed a lethal partnership with fellow City attackers, Daniel Arzani and Dario Vidosic.

The trio have their own individual strengths, which makes their ability combine even more damaging. Arzani has the dazzling feet and the ability to skip past defenders with ease, Fornaroli is the go-to target in the box, while Vidosic’s distribution is exceptional as is his ability to score from just about anywhere.

Against the Wanderers, Vidosic had three shots on goal (two on target), Arzani two shots (one on target) and Fornaroli five shots (three on target) including one goal. City had 10 shots on target against Josep Gombau’s team, of which six were from the attacking trio who had won eight fouls between them.

Similarly against the Jets, it was the same three players that looked the most threatening across the 90 minutes.

Vidosic registered four shot against the Jets, which included two goals, one of which was a brilliantly taken dead ball strike. He also made 29 passes at 89.7% pass accuracy.

Fornaroli’s passing ability was equally as impressive with the striker registering a pass accuracy percentage of 88.9%. The front man had five shots, including one on target and one goal.

Arzani created three chances against the Jets and made 28 passes at a pass accuracy percentage of 85.7%. The 19-year-old’s dribbling ability and attacking threat earned him three fouls.

Across the two games, the trio scored four goals and created many more opportunities between them as they continue to build their understanding. With the 2017/18 finals campaign a fortnight away, there is no doubt that no defender in the league will be comfortable with the prospect of facing City’s in-form attacking unit.
