City’s contingent of Young Socceroos will return to CFA Melbourne this week after competing in the SBS Cup in Japan as the Aussies finished third in the tournament.
After an opening day loss to the hosts in a tight encounter, Ante Milicic’s side were humbled 3-0 by Paraguay in a match where Moudi Najjar, Ramy Najjarine and Dylan Pierias started in the contest.
The side’s only win of the tournament came against the Shizuoka Academy side in a penalty shootout on Sunday.
With the sides locked in a scoreless draw after 90 minutes, the tournament format dictated penalties would decide the contest in which Ante Milicic’s side prevailed 4-3.
Najjar and Najjarine started in the contest for the Aussies with the latter netting the winning penalty for his side to take out the final group match.
The group – including Anthony Lesiotis – will return to CFA Melbourne to resume pre-season training with the A-League side.
