Home sweet home

Melbourne City return home to AAMI Park for the first time in 2019, when they host Brisbane Roar in a crucial clash on Friday evening.

With two away games to open the New Year, City return to action in front of their home fans, in what is set to be a thriller as last season’s semi-finalist’s go head-to-head for the first time since City’s 2-0 win last season which saw them book a place in the Grand Final.

Still alive

Despite suffering defeat last weekend, City’s finals hopes remain well and truly alive.

Friday afternoon’s clash with Brisbane Roar is shaping up to a be a crucial six-point clash, and with all to play for, City will be looking to leapfrog their rivals who currently sit one place above the reigning champions in fourth position.

With everything to play for, the clash is shaping up to be a thriller!

Defensive dash

Defensive duo Steph Catley and Rebekah Stott are two of the hardest working and most talented players in the league.

The duo’s ability to skip through the midfield with ease, albeit from defence, and create chances for their teammates is second to none.

Against Victory on the weekend, the pair again displayed their ability to work tirelessly at both ends, bursting through the heart of the midfield and opening the game up.

As we return to AAMI Park this weekend, there’s every chance that one of the two will unleash an effort goal bound.

Bounce back ability

Head Coach Rado Vidosic and his side will look to bounce back and return to winning ways when they host Brisbane Roar on Friday afternoon.

Despite dominating proceedings, City’s winning run came to an end last weekend, suffering a 1-0 defeat at the hands of cross-town rivals Melbourne Victory.

City had the lion’s share of possession and a number of chances to open the scoring, but were undone by a corner turned shot by Christine Nairn with two minutes of regulation time remaining.

In spite of the result, City performed well and will be looking to bounce back at home on Friday.

Friends turn foes

For the first time since their move to Melbourne City, former Brisbane Roar pair Tameka Butt and Elise Kellond-Knight will face their former side.

Both Butt and Kellond-Knight started off at the Roar, where they went onto have successful careers in Australia’s domestic competition.

Now in City blue, there is no doubt that both players will be looking forward to the contest as they face their former teammates.
