Melbourne City FC is proud to be the first A-League club in Victoria to establish an affiliated Powerchair Football team. The team was established in 2015, when two local fans Luke David and Craig Kilby approached Melbourne City Football Club and City in the Community for support. The team has gone on to win three Victorian championships and have competed in the Australian Powerchair Football Association’s Club Championships against teams from all around Australia and New Zealand.
Powerchair Football is an adapted version of Indoor Football for people with a physical disability who use powerchairs for mobility. It is a highly competitive, fast-paced and entertaining sport with opportunities to play at local, national and international level.
Teams consist of up to 8 players, with 4 players per team on the court. Players use specially made guards to dribble and “kick” the ball around with the intention to gain maximum power and speed through spinning (spin kick) the ball. Matches are played on basketball courts and consist of two 20-minute halves. You can learn more about Powerchair Football here http://melbournecity.psv.org.au/the-sport/
