Melbourne City FC’s A-League Women’s squad has received a huge boost, with 2022/23 Player of the Year, Julia Grosso, signing a two-year deal to extend her time at the club.
The American defender made an instant impact in her first season down under, fitting seamlessly into a City squad that finished third on the table.
Grosso appeared in every game last season, with the fullback netting her maiden professional goal against Perth in March.
After joining the club from the US college system, where she played at the University of Kentucky, the 24-year-old wasted no time showcasing pace and desire to make dangerous forward runs – quickly becoming a fan favourite.
Putting pen to paper for the next two seasons, Grosso is expected to once again play a key role for City as the squad aims for silverware in the 2023/24 season.
Julia Grosso said:
I’m so happy to be back playing with such an amazing group of girls and at such a high-quality club. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience in my first season and I’m so excited to raise the standards and make this one even better.
“This season I want to win the championship with this incredible group and club. On a personal note, I want to keep getting better and to keep loving the game more and more with every season that I play.”
A-League Women’s Head Coach, Dario Vidosic, said:
“We’re building a really exciting squad, and we’re delighted to have Julia back at the Club after a great first season with us at City.”
“She’s a player with an incredible work rate, and someone who is always looking to improve and take her game to another level.
“Her energy both on and off the pitch is contagious and we can’t wait to have her back at the club.”
2023/24 Melbourne City ALW Squad (to date): Leah DAVIDSON, Julia GROSSO, Bryleeh HENRY, Caitlin KARIC, Holly MCNAMARA, Rhianna POLLICINA, Rebekah STOTT, Kaitlyn TORPEY.
