LOCKED IN: Accardo and Varley sign on

Melbourne City FC is pleased to announce that Isabella Accardo and Sophia Varley have re-signed ahead of the 2023/24 A-League Women’s season.

Returning to the Club, 17-year-old Accardo has put pen to paper for her third season at City.

The young midfielder has made nine appearances in the A-League Women’s competition, with eight of those coming under Head Coach Dario Vidosic last season.

Varley returns for her third stint in City blue, signing a new two-year deal, her first full season conact with the Club. The 21-year-old goalkeeper made her professional debut last season, when she made an appearance off the bench against Newcastle Jets.

A member of our squad in 2020/21, Varley re-joined City last season after signing on as an injury replacement player in March.

Isabella Accardo, said:

“I’m really happy to be continuing my footballing journey here at City and I strongly believe in the values and morals the Club has.

“Being part of such an amazing group of girls challenges me to be better every day and I’m looking forward to developing my skills and football knowledge again under Dario this season, and hopefully pushing for more game time.”

Sophia Varley, said:

“I’m stoked to be back, this is where it all started for me a couple of years ago and it’s the Club which I made my professional debut with, it’s been unreal.

“It’s a privilege to sign with City, it’s the club that everyone wants to be at, and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

“Making my debut has made me hungry for more and I can’t wait to learn and develop alongside two of the best goalkeepers in the league.”

A-League Women’s Head Coach, Dario Vidosic, said:

“We’re really excited to have both Sophia and Issy as part of squad again this season.

“Sophia’s a player who has been around the Club in past and we look forward to seeing her continue to improve as a player and push for the number 1 spot over the next two years.

“Issy is a player we rate really highly. Her improvement over the past two seasons at the Club has been evident and we look forward to seeing her push for more playing time this season.”
