Melbourne City FC and Socceroos star, Mathew Leckie, has been nominated for the prestigious AFC Player of the Year award following his stellar year in 2022.
Leckie was today unveiled as one of three nominees for the AFC Annual Awards Doha 2022, which will take place for the first time in four years on October 31 at the iconic Al Mayassa Theatre at the Qatar National Convention Centre.
The 27th edition of the awards sees Leckie nominated alongside Almoez Ali and Salem Al Dawsari.
The City stars nomination comes after he enjoyed an incredible season in City colours, playing a crucial role in the Club lifting the Premiers Plate.
In Green and Gold, it was Leckie’s goal against Denmark in the Socceroos final FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Group Stage fixture which saw Australia seal a Round of 16 birth.
Leckie’s nomination comes alongside fellow Australian, Sam Kerr, who has been nominated for the AFC Women’s Player of the Year Award.
