Emina Ekic re-joins City on two-year deal

Melbourne City FC is delighted to announce that Bosnia and Herzegovina international, Emina Ekic, has signed a two-year contract with the Club.

Ekic joins City on a permanent deal from National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side Racing Louisville FC, after previously joining the Club from the NWSL side on-loan last season.

Despite that loan stint Club being cut short through injury, the pacey attacker was quick to showcase her attacking prowess, scoring four goals in six games and providing one assist.

After representing the United States at under-23 level in 2019, Ekic received her first senior call-up for the Bosnian and Herzegovina team this year, making her senior international debut.

Ekic’s return to City adds even more starpower to an already impressive front third, the team having started the 2023/24 season strongly and remaining undefeated after three matches.

She returned to Melbourne this week and is a chance to make her first appearance of the season on Sunday against Western Sydney.

Emina Ekic said:

“My time in Melbourne was beyond enjoyable both on and off the pitch last season. The girls and staff were all very welcoming and helped me get adjusted very quickly.

“Playing for City was honestly some of my favourite football in my career; not only do I think the style of play suits me perfectly, but I loved the team camaraderie.

“I’m excited to be a part of everything that Melbourne City embodies. Not only was the football great last season, but I really enjoyed how involved the Club was within its community and giving back.”

A-League Women’s Head Coach, Dario Vidosic, said:

“We’re delighted to have Emina back with us for the next two years.

“While it was a disappointing way for her time here to end last season, she couldn’t have impressed us more with how she conducted herself both on and off the pitch.

“She will be a key part of our squad for the remainder of the season, and we can’t wait to see her back on the pitch for us very soon.”
