Melbourne City will be vying to make it three wins in a row when they travel to Adelaide to take on the Reds in Round 11 of the Liberty A-League.
We take a look at a few of the key talking points ahead of the fixture in South Australia.
Three on the trot?
Head Coach, Dario Vidosic, and his side will be eager to secure their third consecutive win and maintain top spot when they travel to Adelaide.
City’s last two wins have come against Melbourne Victory, a 1-0 derby win, and Brisbane Roar, an entertaining 5-3 victory at AAMI Park.
The ladder leaders will be looking to tighten things up at the back when they take on the Reds at Marden Sports Complex this Saturday.
This weekend’s opponents, Adelaide United, recorded back-to-back wins in Round 9 and 10, defeating the in-form Wellington and Western Sydney, before suffering defeat to the Jets in Round 10.
With both teams finishing off 2023 with a strong December, we’re set for an important clash between two teams who will be looking to open the New Year in style.
Hat-trick hero to shine again?
Emina Ekić was unstoppable against Brisbane Roar, with the Bosnia and Herzegovina international putting in a Player of the Match performance to secure her hat-trick and the three points for City.
Since her return to the Club, Ekić has wasted no time showcasing her attacking threat, netting five goals in seven matches so far this season.
In red-hot form in front of goal, the Reds will need to be at their best to stop our Etihad Airways Player of the Month and her teammates.
Half way point
In the competition’s first full home and away season, City’s clash with Adelaide marks the half way point.
The Reds are the only team Vidosic’s side are yet to face as they look to head into the second half of the season on top of the standings.
There’s still a long way to go in the season, but a win against Adelaide on the road would be the perfect way to enter the early stages of the pointy-end of the campaign.
