Melbourne City FC can confirm the immediate release of A-League Men’s midfielder, Hamza Sakhi, for personal reasons.
The decision was made amicably, with the Club respecting and supporting Hamza during this time.
Melbourne City would like to thank Hamza for his contributions both on and off the pitch, with his professionalism and positive attitude to be fondly remembered by teammates, staff, and fans alike.
Speaking about Hamza Sakhi’s departure, Director of Football, Michael Petrillo, said:
“Hamza has been an exemplary member of our squad since arriving at City before the 2023/24 season, and we understand and respect his decision to prioritise family at this time.
“We would like to thank Hamza for his contribution to the team and wish him all the best for the future.”
Reflecting on his time at City, Hamza Sakhi said:
“Firstly, I want to thank the Club and fans for welcoming me to Melbourne. This decision was not easy, but it’s what is best for me and my family at this time.
“I am grateful for the friendships and memories made during my time in Melbourne and wish my teammates and fans all the best for the rest of the season.”
Melbourne City’s men’s team will next take to the pitch on Thursday night, when they host Adelaide United in the second match of a double header at AAMI Park.
