Melbourne City FC welcomes back fan favourite Marco Tilio

Melbourne City FC is thrilled to announce the return of attacker, Marco Tilio, who will rejoin the club on loan for the remainder of the 2023/24 A-League Men season.

Tilio, a fan favourite, previously enjoyed three seasons at City before making the move to Scottish Premiership side Celtic FC in an Australian record transfer move in June 2023.

In a huge boost to Head Coach Aurelio Vidmar’s squad, Tilio will return to Melbourne until the end of the season where he will be looking to impress on the pitch and bank valuable minutes ahead of the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.

Tilio returns to the Club where he netted 20 goals and 19 assists in 86 appearances, helping City win one Championship and a record-breaking three consecutive Premierships.

Melbourne City FC Director of Football, Michael Petrillo, said:

“We’re thrilled to have Marco back at City. His impact during his previous stay with us was significant, and we believe his technical skills, pace and work ethic will add another dimension to our attack.

“Marco’s return is a testament to the strong relationships we maintain, and we’re grateful to Celtic FC for facilitating this loan.”

Men’s Head Coach, Aurelio Vidmar, said:

“We are delighted to welcome a player of Marco’s calibre back to Melbourne City. His technical ability, vision and ability to run at defenders will make him an asset to our team.

“We’re confident his return will provide a boost as we look to continue to climb the table across the back end of the season.”

Marco Tilio added:

“I’m thrilled to be back at City. The memories and experiences from my time here are unforgettable, and I can’t wait to contribute to the team’s success once again.

“The support from the fans has always been incredible, and I’m eager to create more memorable moments together this season.”

Tilio is currently in Qatar with the Socceroos for the AFC Asian Cup and will return to Melbourne following the tournament.
