CALLED UP: City trio Asian Cup bound with Young Matildas

Melbourne City trio Daniela Galic, Tijan McKenna and Naomi Chinnama have all been selected in the Young Matildas squad for the upcoming AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2024.

Rewarded for their performances in City colours, the young stars will depart for international duty following City’s game with Adelaide United at the City Football Academy on Sunday.

Australia have been drawn in Group A for the tournament, alongside hosts, Uzbekistan, Korea Republic and Chinese Taipei. Head Coach Leah Blayney’s side will open their account on Sunday 3 March when they take on Korea.

International selection will see the City trio miss the Club’s fixtures with Brisbane Roar and Newcastle Jets in March.

If the team is to progress beyond the group stage, they will also miss the second Melbourne Derby of the A-League Women’s season, against arch rivals Melbourne Victory.
