Melbourne City’s charity, City in the Community, will once more be raising funds to create healthy spaces for local young people to play football.
Following the resounding success of last year’s initiative, which saw us refurbish the existing Pop-Up Park in Dandenong into ‘City Blue’, we are back again this year, developing new initiatives to empower better lives through football.
In 2024, we will focus on 3 initiatives.
- Supporting local schools with facility improvements to ensure more young people can access our free football programming from CiTC.
- Supporting community groups and clubs with equipment upgrades and free football programming from CiTC.
- Working with local artists to commemorate art and football projects, celebrating community pride, cultural heritage, and creating a visually appealing environment for the local community.
Following the announcement, Head of City in the Community Sunil Menon said.
‘It is wonderful to support the Healthy Goals initiative again this year. The program encourages more young people to play football to not only promote physical health, but also fosters important social, emotional, and cognitive skills that contribute to their overall development and wellbeing.
Funds raised will allow us to uplift facilities within local schools and community groups, ensuring our CiTC coaches and Young Leaders are delivering quality programs that use the power of football to impact the communities around us’.
City in the Community Program Coordinator Antonia Nimorakiotakis said ‘Our weekly programs have gone from strength to strength over the past few years. More so than the football sessions, we are seeing participants feel a sense of belonging and connection to their peers and coaches, simply by turning up and engaging week after week’.
