The 2024 A-League Men’s Finals Series will feature the debut of a live Video Assistant Referee (VAR) announcement process, giving City fans the opportunity to hear the centre referee declare their final decision.
The innovation enables fans to hear the rationale after the centre referee has made any on-field VAR decisions.
The VAR announcement process will be in play when City kick-off their finals campaign this Sunday 5 May in an Elimination Final against arch-rivals Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park.
Football Australia CEO, James Johnson, said: “As the first nation to adopt VAR in a top-tier national competition when we introduced it into the A-League in the 2016/17 season, Football Australia has always led globally in this space.
“We have continued to advocate globally for more innovation and this evolution marks a significant step forward in Football Australia’s commitment to enhancing the clarity and the experience for the fans, players, coaches, and match officials.”
