All-time games record holder to wave goodbye at season’s end

Melbourne City FC’s all-time games record holder, Curtis Good, will depart the Club at season’s end to pursue an opportunity outside of the A-Leagues.

Good’s journey at the Club began in 2011/12 when he made 25 appearances for Melbourne Heart, before earning himself a move to English giants Newcastle United.

The commanding central defender would go on to re-join the Club in September 2018, becoming a mainstay of City’s defence over the next seven seasons, and breaking the Club record for most games played, currently standing at 179.

Good’s unrivalled consistency at the back provided a strong defensive foundation during the Club’s most successful period, winning an A-League Men’s Championship and three A-League Men’s Premiers Plates.

Individually, his superb performances during the 2020/21 double-winning season saw him honoured with Melbourne City’s prestigious Player of the Year award.

A much-loved figure at City, Good’s legacy will continue to live on for many years to come, with the Club to recognise his immense contribution by renaming the ‘Clubman of the Year’ award – presented to the player who best embodies the spirit, character and values of Melbourne City FC, both on and off the field – to the ‘Curtis Good Award’.

Good’s performances over the years have also earned the respect and admiration of his peers, seeing him named in the Professional Footballers Australia ‘A-League Men’s Team of the Season’ in each of the last three seasons.

Recalling his memories of Good’s hugely successful City career, Melbourne City FC Director of Football, Michael Petrillo, said:

“Curtis has had to overcome a serious injury which significantly affected his earlier career and has gone on to become if not the best, one of the best, defenders the A-League has seen. He’s played an integral part in our Men’s team’s success during their history-making run, with his persistence, consistency, defensive intelligence and strength in the contest really standing out.

“As a home-grown boy who started his career with us, he’s always been universally loved by our fans and equally respected by his peers.

“He leaves as a Club legend and will always have a home at Melbourne City.”

Reflecting on his time at the Club, Curtis Good said:

“As a Melbourne boy, it’s been a privilege to represent this Club for as long as I have.

“From giving me the confidence as a young player to make the leap to Europe, and all the success we’ve shared since returning to Australia, the Club has played a massive role in shaping me both on and off the pitch.

“My teammates, the staff and our fans have had a lasting impact on me. I love this Club, and to have an award named after me is a huge honour. My family and I will always call the Club home.”

The entire Club would like to thank Curtis for his immense contribution during a hugely successful career at City. He and his family will always be a part of Melbourne City FC.

Members and fans will have the opportunity to celebrate Curtis Good when Melbourne City take on Melbourne Victory in an Elimination Final at AAMI Park this Sunday 5 May at 5:00pm. Click here to get tickets!
