Melbourne City re-sign experienced shot-stopper

Melbourne City FC has re-signed experienced A-League Men’s goalkeeper Jamie Young on a one-year contract extension.

The 38-year-old was one of City’s most consistent performers throughout the 2023/24 campaign, making 38 appearances in all competitions.

Playing every minute for the Club in his first season in City colours, Young was quick to showcase why he is regarded as one of the competition’s best shot-stoppers.

With over 200 games of experience in the A-League Men’s competition, Young is a great leader, a role model, and a positive presence in the locker room.

Speaking on Young’s re-signing, Melbourne City FC Director of Football, Michael Petrillo, highlighted the importance of the 38-year-old both on and off the pitch.

“On the pitch, Jamie is an impressive shot-stopper and has been one of the best in the league for many years. Equally important though is what he offers off the pitch as well.

“Jamie is someone who brings great leadership and experience, and he is someone who always drives the highest standards.  He is a great mentor, and someone for his younger teammates to look up to. We’re delighted to have him sign on for another season.”

After a strong first season in City colours, Jamie Young said he had no hesitation in returning for 2024/25.

“I’ve enjoyed playing for Melbourne City and when the Club came to me about re-signing, I knew it was a good decision to make.

“I’ve always said to myself that I wanted to play as long as I could and compete at the highest level possible, and at City, that is a reality.

“I’m looking forward to helping the team compete again next season.”
