Four Premiers Plate winners depart Melbourne City

Melbourne City FC can announce the departure of four Premiers Plate winners from the Club’s 2023/24 A-League Women’s squad.

Julia Grosso and Emina Ekić have both exercised clauses in their contracts to explore opportunities abroad, while Naomi Chinnama and Bárbara leave City following the conclusion of their contracts.

Joining the Club from the US college system ahead of the 2022/23 season, Grosso appeared in every game of her first professional season, taking out City’s Player of the Year award. The American made 38 appearances for City across two seasons, lifting her first piece of silverware, the 2023/24 Premiers Plate.

Ekić first joined the Club on-loan from National Women’s Soccer League side, Racing Louisville FC, during the 2022/23 season, before signing a permanent deal with City in November 2023. She made 27 appearances and netted 12 goals during her time in Melbourne, earning her first call up to the Bosnia & Herzegovina national team in the process.

Following the conclusion of her contract, Chinnama will depart after four seasons at City. The 20-year-old defender made her professional debut for the Club during the 2020/21 season, before going on to make 43 appearances in City colours.

Brazilian goalkeeper Bárbara is also set to depart the Club following the conclusion of her short-term contract. Bárbara joined City in late February following the record-breaking transfer of Canadian international Lysianne Proulx, going on to record five clean sheets in eight appearances for the Club.

On behalf of the Club, we would like to thank all four players for their contributions and wish them every success in the next chapter of their careers.
