Daniela Galic departs Melbourne City for overseas opportunity

Melbourne City FC can announce the departure of midfield star, Daniela Galic, who leaves the Club to pursue an opportunity abroad.

The move comes just weeks after Galic was crowned the 2023/24 A-League Women’s Young Footballer of the Year and was recognised with City’s Rising Star Award.

Dubbed the ‘future of Australian football’ by Channel 10 pundit Grace Gill, Galic has set the league alight since her debut as a 16-year-old in November 2022.

A key cog in the City midfield throughout the past two seasons, the 17-year-old made 39 appearances for the Club; netting nine goals and adding a further nine assists.

Galic was a key member of City’s first Premiership win since 2020, with her strong personal form being rewarded with a call-up to the Matildas squad as a train-on player in February.

While disappointed to see her leave the Club, Head Coach, Dario Vidosic, is pleased to see Galic seal an overseas move and take the next step in her career.

“It’s been a pleasure to work with Dani throughout the last two years and she thoroughly deserves this opportunity.

She has an extremely bright future and with her technical ability, work ethic and love for the game, I’m certain she has what it takes to reach her full potential.

“I, along with the whole Club, wish her all the best with the move to Europe and I’m sure we will be welcoming her back to Melbourne as a Matilda before too long.”

Daniela Galic spoke glowingly when reflecting on her time in Melbourne.

“I’ve absolutely loved my time here at Melbourne City – it’s been an amazing two years.

“It has been such an enjoyable squad to be a part of and I’ve learnt so much under Dario. I can’t thank him and the support staff enough for how much they’ve helped me both on and off the pitch.

“I’m really excited for what the future holds, and I wish everyone at the Club all the best.”
