Four-time Champion returns to City

Melbourne City FC is pleased to announce the return of four-time A-League Women’s Champion, Tyla-Jay Vlajnic, who joins the Club on a one-year deal for the 2024/25 season.

A foundation member of City’s Women’s team that entered the league in 2015, the Serbian international rejoins the Club after two seasons with Western United.

During her initial seven-year spell at Melbourne City, Vlajnic played an important role in the team’s success, winning four Championships and two Premiers Plates. Her return also reunites her with current Captain Rebekah Stott as the two form a unique bond as the two remaining members of City’s inaugural Women’s side.

The 33-year-old is a dynamic left-footer who brings great versatility and reliability, having excelled across multiple positions across the midfield and defense through her career.

Vlajnic’s extensive experience will be invaluable as City aims to build on last season’s success and prepares for the inaugural AFC Women’s Champions League competition next month.

Speaking on her return, Vlajnic expressed her excitement about returning to a place where she calls home.

“Returning to Melbourne City feels like a full circle moment. City has always held a special place in my heart, it’s where I started my professional career and it’s a Club which has given me so many opportunities, including my international career with Serbia.

“It feels right to come back home to the best Club in Australia, and I can’t wait to wear the City colours again and do everything that I can to contribute towards more success.”

Melbourne City FC Women’s Head Coach, Michael Matricciani, spoke of his delight to welcome Vlajnic to his squad.

“We are excited to welcome Tyla-Jay back to Melbourne City. She is a player with a strong connection to our Club’s history and has proven time and again her quality on the pitch.

“Her versatility and experience will add great quality to our squad as we prepare for both the AFC Women’s Champions League and A-League Women’s competitions.”
