ALW PREVIEW: City v Mariners

Melbourne City will be eyeing off another three points in the Ninja A-League at home to Central Coast this Saturday.

It’s been a perfect start to the new season for Michael Matricciani’s team, currently five wins from five across all competitions.

Here are a few of the key storylines heading into Saturday!

CAPPING OFF AN ACTION-PACKED DAY

Our clash against the Mariners isn’t the only reason why City Football Academy is the place to be on Saturday.

Thanks to Federation University, we’ll be holding City Fan Festival from 1:30pm which will feature plenty of fun for the whole family.

You’ll be able to meet and grab selfies with all of your favourite Men’s players, take part in a range of fun games and activities, plus stock up on City merch and enjoy a variety of food options.

At 3pm the gates to the ctrl:cyber Pitch will open as our City Women take centre stage in their pursuit of another three points.

While we had to do it the hard way coming from behind in our first two games of the season, our perfect start to live under new Head Coach Michael Matricciani remains alive heading into our second match at home.

THE SKIPPER’S BACK!

We’ve secured those first two wins of the season despite the absence all our all-time appearance leader, Captain Rebekah Stott.

A hamstring niggle suffered in a training session on the eve of the season was enough to rule her out of our first two games, but our skipper is now back to full fitness and ready to return this Saturday.

It means Matricciani will have a big decision to make at the selection table, with there likely to be someone very unlucky to miss out should Stott slot straight back into the starting XI.

Joining her in the extended squad is young gun Shelby McMahon, who is also closing in on her first appearance of the season after picking up a quad injury in Thailand for our Champions League Group Stage.

NEW TILLIES IN ACTION

Matildas Interim Head Coach, Tom Sermanni, unveiled his squad for the upcoming international window, with plenty of new faces in the mix.

The squad featured call-ups for three City stars who all played a key role in last season’s Premiership win and have begun the new season in strong form too.

It’s a first-ever call-up for hard-working midfielder Leah Davidson, who is joined in the squad by Bryleeh Henry and Karly Roestbakken who are included in a Matildas squad for the first time since 2021.

Before they link up with the national team squad in early December, don’t miss the chance to see them in action at home live!
