MADE IN CITY BLUE: City stars shine with Matildas

It was a memorable international window for Melbourne City quartet Leah Davidson, Bryleeh Henry, Karly Roestbakken Laura Hughes and the Matildas.

Joining the Matildas for the full length of the international window, Davidson made her international debut off the bench in Australia’s 3-1 win over Chinese Taipei at AAMI Park on Wednesday – becoming Matildas cap number 232.

As she was waiting to be subbed on for her debut, it was her City teammate, Henry, who enjoyed a special moment of her own – netting her first goal in Green and Gold with a well-placed header.

The Matildas final match of the extended international window saw four City stars feature in an impressive win at GMHBA Stadium.

Henry and Davidson earned their first international starts, with Davidson netting her first senior international goal within the first six minutes of the 6-0 win. Latching onto former City midfielder Emily van Egmond’s pin-point cross, Davidson nodded home a wonderful header inside the near post, giving the Chinese Taipei keeper no chance.

On the 70th minute mark, Head Coach Tom Sermanni looked to his bench, as Hughes made her international debut alongside City teammate and best friend, Roestbakken.

It was a long-awaited return to the pitch with the national team for Roestbakken, who made her debut at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup before suffering a string of injuries.
