ALW PREVIEW: Central Coast v City

In their final game of 2024, City will take on Central Coast on New Year’s Eve as they look to continue their unbeaten start to the season.

It’s a tight turnaround for Michael Matricciani’s side who will be eager to end the year on a high.

We take a look at some of the key talking points ahead of Tuesday afternoon’s clash with the Mariners away from home.

THREE-DAY GAP

City will be full of belief following their third come-from-behind win of the season on Saturday afternoon – defeating Wellington 2-1 at home. But despite the good result, attention has quickly turned to their New Year’s Eve clash with the Mariners.

With only three-days separating the two matches, Matricciani’s squad depth will be tested.

If Saturday’s clash with the Nix is anything to go by, the team’s second-half game changers showed us the strength of this squad.

The holiday period is one of the toughest on the football calendar, but if City are able to continue their unbeaten start, they will enter the back end of the season with confidence and momentum.

SECOND TIME UP

When City take on the Mariners on Tuesday, it will be the first team this season that they’ve faced twice.

The two sides played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at the ctrl:cyber Pitch in Round 3, with Alexia Apostolakis and Lourdes Bosch the goal scorers for City.

Since then, City drew their next game, before recording four straight wins in the league. While the Mariners bounced back from two losses with a resilient 1-0 win over Perth Glory in Western Australia on the weekend.

Central Coast is a tough place to visit, although there’s no doubt that Matricciani and his side will have their sights set on five straight wins and their first three points over Mariners this season.

CITY DOUBLEHEADER ON THE COAST

New Year’s Eve football. City Women. City Men. Central Coast.

A blockbuster away doubleheader awaits for City fans, and whether you’re on the Coast in the stands or cheering on from home, it’s set to be an action-packed afternoon of football.

Six points are up for grabs as both our Women and Men will be looking to end 2024 in style.
