MATRICCIANI: The character of the team is unquestionable

Michael Matricciani has praised his side’s character after City came from behind for the seventh time this season to earn a point against Melbourne Victory.

It’s a short turnaround for the ladder leaders, who are back in action at the ctrl:cyber Pitch this Wednesday 5 February when the team hosts Western United.

UNTIL THE FINAL WHISTLE

“The character of the team is unquestionable. I think, when I felt like they had nothing left to give, they kept grinding and they found a way.

“We always talk about being composed in the big moments and obviously the switch, the cut back from Mini [Rhianna Pollicina] and the forward run from Specky [Mariana Speckmaier] to be able to be in front of her player was outstanding.

“I think overall we deserved probably more out of the match, we gave them their goal, we gave them a couple of half moments, we dominated the match.

“I think we stamped our authority really well, controlled that counterattacks. I’m super proud. I think in all moments aspects of the game we were on top, but in the end it becomes a big point for us.”

A TEAM EFFORT

“I think credit to especially players like Mini who hasn’t been one of the main starters in the last few weeks and has come on at half time and made a big difference – Karly did exactly the same and Kat at the end, she’s been in and out of the squad and she’s given us a lot of energy in the last 10 minutes.

“So look, when you want to win things, you need absolutely everybody. And from the players that were on the bench giving that energy and screaming at the players to keep working to the players on the park, couldn’t be prouder.”
