Melbourne City and Socceroos star Mathew Leckie reached a significant milestone on Saturday night, making his 100th A-League Men appearance.
Leckie delivered a player-of-the-match performance in midfield, playing a crucial role in City’s 2-2 draw with cross-town rivals Melbourne Victory.
The milestone is the latest achievement in what has been a decorated career for the experienced attacker, who has continued to showcase why he’s one of the league’s most lethal attackers since his return from injury.
Since joining City in 2021 after a decade spent in Germany, Leckie has made 74 appearances for the Club and netted 19 goals. His ability to impact games with strength, pace and skill has made him a fan favourite and a vital figure in the team.
2022 was particularly special for Leckie, as he played an instrumental role in City’s Premiers Plate winning campaign while also etching his name in Australian football history with his goal against Denmark in the Socceroos final FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Group Stage fixture which saw Australia seal a Round of 16 birth.
His stellar 2022 saw him named as one of three nominees for the prestigious AFC Player of the Year award, cementing his status as one of Asia’s finest footballers.

Following the 2022/23 season, he crowned Melbourne City’s Player of the Year following a dominant 18 appearances where he recorded 12 total goal contributions (six goals and six assists).
Leckie’s leadership and experience continue to be invaluable for City, and Saturday’s Melbourne Derby performance was yet another reminder of his enduring class and quality.
