Three City stars named in Socceroos squad for March Qualifiers

Melbourne City will be well represented on the international stage this month, with three of our stars set to join the Socceroos squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

Aziz Behich, Marco Tilio, and Kai Trewin have all earned call-ups to Tony Popovic’s 26-man squad ahead of Australia’s crucial fixtures against Indonesia and China PR.

For Trewin, this marks a significant milestone as he receives his first senior Socceroos selection.

The 22-year-old has been one of City’s most reliable performers this season, featuring in 19 matches across all competitions.

His consistency and versatility, having played both in defence and midfield, have been key to City’s strong campaign.

Tilio’s return to the national squad comes after an impressive run of form since recovering from injury.

The dynamic winger has made an immediate impact in front of goal and has provided plenty of attacking spark since his return to action.

He last featured for the Socceroos at the 2023 AFC Asian Cup and will be eager to make his mark once again.

Behich, one of the most experienced players in the squad, continues to be a mainstay for both club and country.

The City skipper has amassed 77 caps for Australia and will bring valuable leadership to the squad as the Socceroos look to strengthen their position in Group C.

Meanwhile, City goalkeeper Patrick Beach will also join the Socceroos camp in Sydney as part of a development opportunity, gaining valuable experience training alongside the squad.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed a strong debut professional season, earning recognition as one of the league’s standout young shot-stoppers.

The Socceroos currently sit second in their group and will be targeting maximum points to boost their chances of direct qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

They face Indonesia at Sydney Football Stadium on Thursday, March 20, before traveling to China for an away clash in Hangzhou on Tuesday, March 25.

Congratulations to all four City players on their selection, and best of luck to the Socceroos in their upcoming qualifiers!
